Tomorrow is Cakesie’s 2nd birthday.
I waited until the last minute to decide on a cake for her, because I wanted to see what her interests would be at age two. So far, her interests seem to be making messes, throwing tantrums, tormenting the cat, and the Teletubbies.
I confess that I don’t understand the appeal of this show. In fact, I have occasionally speculated that perhaps the people who created it were on drugs at the time. Nonetheless, Cakes adores the Teletubbies, especially Laa-Laa and Po. However, Po is red, and true red is a very difficult frosting color to achieve, so I went with Laa-Laa:

This cake was really pretty easy to make. It’s just a 10-inch springform layer cake, with 1-inch crescent shapes cut out of the sides. You flip them over and attach them with toothpicks to make the ears. I frosted the face using an oval-shaped, wax paper template. The eyes are flattened Milk Duds, and the mouth is cut out of a red Fruit Roll-up.

As you can tell by the giant grin, Cakes is pretty pleased with her Laa-Laa cake.
On a related note, I want to send a big thanks out to Kim in C.R. I put the word out on Freecycle that I was looking for Teletubbies anything, and Kim generously gave us 6 Teletubbies videos (one isn’t pictured, because it’s Cakesie’s favorite, and she insisted on taking it to bed with her).

Cakes loves these videos, and we were very thankful to receive them.
Thanks Kim!
