Cakie's Strawberry Shortcake Cake

My husband, the artist, drew a strawberry-shaped template so that I could make this Strawberry Shortcake cake for Cakie's 3rd birthday.

Again, this is made from a 9x13 sheet cake, and the leaves are cut from the trimmings.

The chunky, art deco-style candles were a Wal-Mart clearance purchase for only 50 cents, and I also bought the scented Strawberry Shortcake doll on clearance. It doubled as both a cute cake decoration, and a birthday present for Cakes.

Her birthday isn't actually until tomorrow, but we're having a weekend-long celebration, since our original Chuck E. Cheese plan has been derailed by this crummy flu.

Cakes seems happy anyway, and that's what's important.

(This picture really shows her underbite, which the dentist says is "Class C." I'm pretty sure this translates to, "Start saving up for the orthodontist now." Personally, I think it's cute, but the dentist assures me that when Cakes gets older, she will not).

Now...if only I could get the girls to stop coughing constantly. It seriously is making me crazy. You know how the sound of a dog barking, or a baby crying non-stop kind of makes you want to curl up in a corner in the fetal position, with your hands over your ears? Or rock back and forth while humming and braiding your hair?

Uh huh. That's pretty much where I'm at right now.

The Strawberry Shortcake cake (and the birthday girl!) is adorable. The scented doll brings back memories of my childhood; I had both Strawberry Shortcake (yum!)and the Blueberry Muffin scented doll, which, as I recall, smelled totally gross.

I hope your girls stop coughing soon. Non stop coughing is sanity testing, for sure.

PS--I never commented on the "future of your blog" post, as I'm slightly brain dead and stink at commenting, but I wanted to say that I hope you blog for a very long time. You have a way with words and I enjoy stopping by and reading anything you have to say.

Cute cake and what they'll remember is the love, anyway. Hope everyone gets healthy, quick!

Too cute! I wish I was this good at cake-decorating. I tried to make your Easter lamb cake this past spring for my nephews and it looked cross-eyed and falling apart. *sigh*

The cake is adorable! You really are very talented at many things! Sorry about the Chuck E Cheese birthday party:( Hope everyone gets well soon.

How about using childrens Mucinex for their cough? Mary Anne hasn't used it since last winter, so I can't remember how well it worked, but I just gave Jack adult Mucinex and it worked well.

How is your husband feeling? Any results from the ultrasound? I'm still praying!!!

The cake is beautiful. Your daughter is so cute. My 6 year old son has an under bite also. I am taking him to the orthodontist now that his baby teeth are falling out. He will most likely need braces. I think he has an absolutely delicious smile, but I agree that if I don't get it fixed now he will not be so happy when he grows up.Why do they have to grow up!?

Heather, the strawberry shortcake cake is fantastic...and also brings back memories. I was a huge fan and had all the scented dolls and used to watch the videos constantly.

I also didn't comment until now on the future of the blog. However, I can't tell you how much your blog has meant to me. I stay at home with a very active 2 year old, and I've found that reading your blog is something that gets me back on track when I'm feeling frustrated or out of sorts.

Just even reading that you are annoyed by the kids coughing makes me feel better! I always assume that I'm the only one who feels that way, and knowing that someone who is as organized and together as you is also going through that(and admitting it), means a lot.

I hope the kids feel better and please keep the blog going....it really does help people!

OOHHHH...Me too! (with the coughing thing) I CANNOT take it, when my kids have the never ending cough. It's like nails down a chalk board to me. It's also an anxiety thing of "I WANT them to GET Better!"

The cake turned out adorable! What a cutie patootie:)

Awesome cake!

I love reading your blog for all the helpful info you give!

I really love reading about cakes! I have a free spirited daughter as well! She- like Cakes enjoys dancing in not the greatest places...its nice to know I am not the only one who is driven batty by their child!

We had swine 3 weeks ago and have that lingering cough still! Our doctor told us it will be with us for a while!

Good Luck and please keep writing!

Wow, you (and your hubby) are really creative! That is an adorable cake.

The coughing...don't know what to tell ya. Headphones? Just kidding.

Love the cake, and Cakes looks SO cute, especially for a sick girl!

On the coughing--it makes me crazy, too. During the day I just suffer through it (it's productive, after all, and they need to cough that junk out), but at night I've found that putting Vick's VapoRub (I use the baby kind, but that's just what we have) on my girls' feet and then putting socks over it definitely seems to help. I know, I know, I sound crazy, but it really does help, and no, I don't understand why. It seems to really help my kids sleep better, and they actually get some rest rather than tossing and turning coughing all night.

Good luck, being sick (or even just dealing with sick kiddos) is never fun.

Very nice job on the cake. The birthday girl does indeed look happy despite the recent illness in your home and canceled party plans.

Ah if only I had saved all my Strawberry Shortcake dolls and accessories (Star Wars too) from my youth...imagine how much they'd be worth now.

I am a relatively new reader to your blog. Single, no kids, but still enjoy reading about your days, love the organizational ideas, and am yearning to be satisfied with what I have. That is why I check in daily and why your blog is on my Favorites list. I hope you continue blogging, no matter the topic.

Happy Birthday to your precious little girl. It looks like she is feeling a little better. And believe me, I know what you are talking about with coughing!! Two of my kids have the flu too and they have been coughing constantly! It is driving me crazy! But I also feel terrible for them because I'm sure it's driving them even more crazy!
