Cakie’s Strawberry Shortcake Cake

My husband, the artist, drew a strawberry-shaped template so that I could make this Strawberry Shortcake cake for Cakie’s 3rd birthday.

Again, this is made from a 9×13 sheet cake, and the leaves are cut from the trimmings.

The chunky, art deco-style candles were a Wal-Mart clearance purchase for only 50 cents, and I also bought the scented Strawberry Shortcake doll on clearance. It doubled as both a cute cake decoration, and a birthday present for Cakes.

Her birthday isn’t actually until tomorrow, but we’re having a weekend-long celebration, since our original Chuck E. Cheese plan has been derailed by this crummy flu.

Cakes seems happy anyway, and that’s what’s important.

(This picture really shows her underbite, which the dentist says is “Class C.” I’m pretty sure this translates to, “Start saving up for the orthodontist now.” Personally, I think it’s cute, but the dentist assures me that when Cakes gets older, she will not).

Now…if only I could get the girls to stop coughing constantly. It seriously is making me crazy. You know how the sound of a dog barking, or a baby crying non-stop kind of makes you want to curl up in a corner in the fetal position, with your hands over your ears? Or rock back and forth while humming and braiding your hair?

Uh huh. That’s pretty much where I’m at right now.
